San Pedro Alcantara situated on the N-340, some 45 minutes from Malaga’s international airport and approximately 10 minutes from central Marbella – depends on the traffic jamb.
San Pedro is a small town with countless shops and restaurants in all streets, and with an extensive new urbanized area on the beach side. San Pedro was in the years 1988-1995 a tranquil place with a wonderful natural beach area. Since then the construction developments with many new urbanizations changed everything, also new water and drainage systems, and local street connections.
The new San Pedro is now more prominent with new modern shopping complexes, beautifully kept parks, and the immaculately kept new promenade running along side the golden beaches up to Cortijo Blanco.
There is also the ruins of the Basilica close by dating back to the 6th century and considered to be one of the most important in Spain, many of the artifacts found are displayed in local museums in Marbella and Malaga, they include skeletons, jewelry and clay vases.
By the way: To say it frankly, during the high season most resorts on the Costa del Sol, especially Elviria-Marbella-San Pedro forces everybody to accept the traffic jamb nightmare! And the Police is everywhere present early in the morning on the main streets and the CN340 for alcohol tests!
