Fuengirola is located half way between Malaga city and Marbella, a 25-minute drive (20 km) from the Malaga airport. Fuengirola is one of the four major tourist developments on the Costa del Sol with Torremolinos, Benalmadena Costa, and Marbella. This huge tourist resort covers 10 km of coastline with intensive developments of hotels and apartments many of them high rise.

The marina is home to some impressive yachts and sport boats. But it is certainly not to compare with Puerto Banus in Marbella. The port allows a relaxing stroll while watching the fishing boats going out to sea.

Fuengirola is attractive for its 8 km of sandy beaches, with high-rise hotels and apartments. The promenade is new and has many palm trees interspersed with colorful flower beds. The sea front is a favorite place for tourists as well as for local families. Many improvements has been made in recent years such as cleaner streets and beaches.

The beaches along Fuengirola, Los Boliches, Gaviotas and Torreblanca ofer plenty of space for the countless tourists coming each summer sunbathing, swimming, doing water sport, and having fun day and night. There are special areas designated for windsurfing, beach volleyball and other water sports. Fun at the beach doesn't stop during night, as there are many bars and clubs on the beachfront.

The castle has become the town's symbol, situated outside the town on a hill giving an impressive view over Fuengirola and the sea. The castle is of Roman origin.

Attractions are the Aqua Park, a trip to the zoo, a ride around town on "the little train" or on a horse-drawn carriage, right through to a host of water sports. The Fuengirola Zoo is a popular day out for families. The animal enclosures are simulated versions of their natural habitat, from tropical forests to African plains.

The Parque Acuatico Mijas is also popular for families. They can spend the day in the children's paddling pool, on the waterslides. There is also an arcade and a bar for food and drinks.

Fuengirola has numerous new shopping centers, for example the Miramar shopping center, just off of the N340 in front of the Beatrix Hotel, with a multiplex cinema and numerous restaurants. There is also an arcade with toddler rides, basketball machines, air hockey, miniature golf and bouncy castles.
