Some figures may give an understanding about the development of Andalucia and the district Malaga:

The comunidad Andalucia has a population of 8.039.399 inhabitants (2007).

526.942 (6,6%) are foreigners. The foreign population in Andalucia increased 15,8% (2006-2007). 90.733 are from the European Union.

Málaga has 561.250 inhabitants (2007) from which 181.589 are foreigners (31.12.2005).

The metropolitan area of Malaga has a total of 965.371 inhabitants (1.1.2008). 31% of the Malaga district population are foreigners. Two of three new residents in Malaga are foreigners.

Another example: In Marbella live people from over 130 different nationalities. Since 2002 the foreign population has increased 48% in total; only in 2007 the registered foreign population increased 13.7% (from 29.963 to 34.092). 126.422 are registered in Marbella; but the estimated figure of people living in Marbella is in total approximately 200.000 inhabitants.
