Alhaurin el Grande is a bustling village located approximately 30 km from the capital city of Malaga. The place with its rich history is one of the most picturesque villages in the Guadalhorce river valley. The Mediterranean coast with Fuengirola and Mijas is a short drive away. The towns Coin and Alhaurin de la Torre are also nearby. The Malaga airport is reachable within 20 minutes
The a charming whitewashed village Alhaurin el Grande is in the middle of a beautiful landscape with rich citric plots, fruit and vegetables, olive fields and a majestic sierra with wide open spaces. The hills on the north side offer wonderful rural views. The extended area consists of plains, where agriculture is the main type of farming. The center of the village is characterized by narrow avenues and small plazas make up a cozy place with many cafes, restaurants, and shops.
Places of interests are: one of the most important monuments of the town is the parish church of Our Lady of Grace (16th century), the patron saint of the town, which is built on the ruins of an Arab fortress. Another important monument is the hermitage of Saint Anton. Worth to visit is also the small church and the ancient Moorish tower in Torrealqueria with its famous gardens. Other places of notable interest are the archaeological sites and remains of Arabic origin such as the old fort of Fahala, the watchtower of Ubrique, and Roman remains such as in the Fuente del Sol and the Moor mill of the Corchos. On the road to Mijas, there is the chapel of the Cristo de la Agonia, from the 18th century, and at the edge of the Coin to Málaga road is the fountain of the Doce Caños or Fuente Lucena.
Alhaurin el Grande is a good place to attend varied cultural activities such as jazz, flamenco festivals and the ferias in June, processions in Semana Santa (Easter), and sport activities like tennis, golf in three courses or trekking in Sierra de Mijas and Cártama.
